Admatrone 250/500 Tablets
Generic Name– Abiraterone Acetate
Drug Class – Antineoplastic Agent / Androgen Biosynthesis Inhibitor
Abiraterone Acetate is an oral medication used in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC).
It works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme CYP17A1, which is essential for androgen biosynthesis in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissue. This inhibition reduces androgen production, slowing the growth of androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells.
Abiraterone is administered orally in tablet form, typically in combination with prednisone and under the supervision of an oncologist. It should be taken on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after meals.
Common side effects include hypertension, hypokalemia, fluid retention, fatigue, joint pain, and elevated liver enzymes. Regular monitoring of liver function and electrolytes is recommended during therapy.
