Generic Name – Azacitidine
Drug Class – Antineoplastic agent
Azacitidine is a chemotherapy drug used to treat myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML).
It works as a hypomethylating agent, helping restore normal cell growth by reducing abnormal DNA methylation in cancer cells.
Azacitidine is administered by subcutaneous injection or intravenous (IV) infusion in hospital settings.
It may be used alone or in combination with other treatments depending on the cancer type.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, low blood counts, and injection site reactions.
