L-Asparaginase is an enzyme-based chemotherapy used mainly to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
It works by depleting L-asparagine, an amino acid essential for the survival of certain cancer cells.
This leads to the inhibition of cancer cell growth and promotes cell death.
It is administered via IV or IM injection and is part of combination chemotherapy protocols.
Common side effects include allergic reactions, liver toxicity, and pancreatitis.
